How much is UT paying Matthew McConaughey to teach? It’s not

It’s a question that’s been on the minds of many ever since UT announced that Academy Award winner and university alumnus Matthew McConaughey would be teaching a class this fall: How much is he getting paid? The answer is — drumroll, please — nothing.

According to the Texas Tribune, McConaughey is taking part in the class for free and isn’t technically instructing the course Advanced Producing: Script-to-Screen. He’ll only be in class once or twice a semester while the class will be taught by lecturer Scott Rice.

Paul Stekler, chair of the radio-television-film department at the Moody College of Communication, told the Texas Tribune that the actor is more of “an active collaborator.”

“A lot of folks contribute to the program in terms of people that are in the industry and giving back,” Stekler said. “Matthew is just a much more high-profile person than most of those folks.”
