Seventy years ago today, the world became just a little more corrupt as the “Pope of Trash” was born.
John Waters — the iconic director, writer, actor, journalist and much more — celebrates his 70th birthday on April 22. The creator of counter-culture Hollywood treasures like “Pink Flamingos” and “Hairspray” usually throws himself a big party on his special day. But in an interview with Biography, he said this year he will fly the five people he talks to every day of his life to Paris.
“For my 70th, I thought, ‘I don’t need to have a celebrity party this year,'” he said. “‘I’m going to go take my oldest, closest friends to Paris.'”
Though he’s not working on any new films (and said trashy movies are pretty much a thing of the past), Waters is currently writing two books — “Mr. Know It All” and “Liar Mouth.”
The Baltimore native came to Austin in February 2015 to perform his one-man show at ACL Live at the Moody Theatre, and we can only hope he makes his way back soon. The city that likes to keep it weird could always use a visit from the thinly-stached Prince of Puke.
Here’s how Dreamland News suggests you celebrate Water’s birthday.
